Rockabilly Photoshoot

A while back, I collaborated with my friend and talented photographer, Diana Diriwaechter in a photoshoot. We wanted to recreate a classic 1950's pin-up photo and explore a modern twist with a "rockabilly" style. It was fun designing the set-- which we created with items carefully chosen from flea markets, antique sales, and ebay! Here is a color and costume study I did and the final shots taken by Diana.

Chocolate Chunk O' Love

Roxie, my pleasantly plump Chocolate Lab. This is her classic inquisitive look she gives you when you call her attention. She kind of juts her lower teeth out just bit. I love it.

Pahoihoi Needs a Girlfriend

Who better than Lala, the sun goddess. I think she's "hot" enough for a lava monster.

What is Pahoehoe?

Pronounced Pa-HOY-HOY.... from Hawaiian meaning "smooth and unbroken lava". It is basaltic lava that has a smooth, billowy, undulating, or ropy surface. These surface features are due to the movement of very fluid lava under a congealing surface crust. (from wikipedia)

Currently my husband, Jeff Biancalana, and I are working on a children's book concept about a lava monster who embodies the physical characteristics of pahoehoe lava. Here are a couple of sketches...

Out of Picture: Volume 2

Character line up from my short story, "Crawdaddy-O". Crawdaddy-O is a part of a creative collaboration of Blue Sky Studios artists entitled, Out of Picture: Volume 2.

Crawdaddy-O tells a tale of three mischievous alligators from the murky bayous of Louisiana. Their adventure begins when they follow a steamboat passenger dressed in a crawdad costume. Little do they know, their pursuit of a tasty snack lands them in the crowded streets of New Orleans during a spectacular Mardis Gras celebration.
